Using My Portfolio As an EXPERIMENTAL Project!

Welcome back to the blog!

This week’s blog post touches upon my longest unreleased project to date: My Portfolio!

I’m going to quickly talk through my portfolio and the changes that I am planning. One day, I will eventually release it!

I’d like to think that what I’m doing with my portfolio is different to just making it once and leaving it forever.

This blog post is most definitely a braindump post!

Initial Plans:

My initial plans involved building a portfolio from scratch using Next JS and TypeScript. I just wanted to get *something* out!

I also had plans of using libraries such as Framer Motion to enhance the UX.

That all sounds great but to me, it was a bit too Frontend orientated.

What I Think I’ll Do:

Ultimately, as great as FrontEnd is, I would like to do more than JUST FrontEnd.

For that reason, this project seems to be the perfect opportunity to develop my backend and infrastructure skills.

When I eventually get my first iteration of my portfolio out; it will probably just be a Next JS app.

The twist will be that I will use this project to practise things such as Cloud Deployments (writing YAML!) ; different backend’s, creating a pipeline, writing tests …

Disclaimer (To Cut Costs):

Obviously, I don’t want to incur costs so I’m thinking of keeping a static version of my portfolio which always runs, probably using Vercel.

That way, I can do all of the setup (for e.g. for an AWS deployment) so that I can develop the skills BUT then cancel it so that I avoid the costs.
