Looking Back on 2024!
Introduction:
And just like that, we’ve reached the end of 2024!
Each year seems to fly by faster and faster and I thought it would be beneficial to stop and reflect on all the great things that have happened this year. Of course there are challenges but ultimately, things change so fast and it’s important to look back at what has been done, rather than constantly looking at what’s next?
As always, before we get into this week’s blog post, please make sure to applaud, comment and share with your friends.
Happy Reading!
Key Events:
Finishing University:
2024 marked the end of my Computer Science degree! I’ve already spoken about different parts of it in previous blog posts so won’t go into too much detail.
This marks ‘the end’ of education, coming off the back of a great few years which included a year in industry.
I also have to mention my Dissertation project as this brought together many of the skills I’d learnt to date into 1 project. From the practical skills of Next JS to testing, CI/CD, Cloud Computing and even pulling in Generative AI; this project brought together many different concepts into a practical project.
Going Through Lots of Job Applications (And eventually landing a job):
This year, job applications were tough.
Of course this coincided with a challenging job market but it was still intense to go through so many automated tests, live interviews, programming tests …
Despite this, it was still a valuable experience and in the end, it all worked out. Nowadays, I’m just trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible!
Finding a balance when it comes to ‘Tech Events’:
So in 2023, I went to an insane amount of events. They were all across the country (Particularly while I was working) and in faireness, I had a great time.
With that being said, all the travelling and constant exposure becomes tiring and there comes a point where rest is needed.
Nowadays, I’m a lot more selective as to which events I attend. I definitely miss some but I believe this allows me to rest and then focus on the ones that are of most interest to me.
Events are in a good place in my life now where they’re a bit of fun, while also serving as passive learning opportunities.
All of this links quite nicer to the wider topic of ‘work-life balance’ which is something I am constantly looking to improve.
Crossing 100 Blog Posts:
Despite not being perfect, I’ve been consistent enough to cross 100 blog posts overall.
This blog is quite a relaxed place where I can braindump thoughts and document different events and experiences. This is something I look to continue in the future.
Conclusion:
All in all, things have been progressing well.
Plenty more blog posts are coming.
Happy New Year!
