How Learning a New Language Helped to Improve My Programming!!!
Introduction:
I’ve been learning Hindi for the past year (everyday!) and in my opinion; it has most definitely helped me in order to improve my programming.
I’m not saying that it’s a necessity and that everyone must learn another language if they want to improve although for me; this experience has been quite valuable and interesting and one that I thought I can share!
As always, before I jump into this story, make sure to applaud and share (helping us reach more people!!).
Why I Started Learning a New Language?
Initially there was no correlation between a spoken language like Hindi and a Programming Language like Python.
It was just something that I’d been putting off for a while and one day I just decided to do it!
Once I’d Started, What Did I Realise?
Structure:
I realised that different aspects of the spoken language can be directly relatable to different aspects of programming languages.
For example: the syntax of a particular programming expression can be relatable to the sentence structure within a spoken language:
Keywords:
In spoken languages we also have different classifications of words (verbs, nouns, adjectives …). We can relate these to keywords in Python (True, set, list, None …).
The Only Way to Learn:
For both, Practical Application is the only real way to learn and become better with them!!!
My Thoughts Now:
This was definitely a good thing for me to do. These 2 different interests allow me to split my time between them (preventing burnout) and improve my skills simultaneously.
I would definitely encourage people to give this a try!!
