Introduction:

So I’ve started a new job BUT the learning never stops!

Whether it’s on the job or off the job, learning in any field (But especially Tech) is critical and this week’s blog post outlines how I plan to continue learning.

As always, before we get into this week’s blog post, please make sure to applaud, comment and share with your friends.

Happy Reading!

Strategy:

So there’s 2 parts of this.

Firstly, I’m starting a new job with a brand new tech stack so there’s a clear need to learn.

Secondly, there are so many aspects of tech that I want to learn therefore I have to prioritise the core day to day skills, but also including different topics too.

Finally, this blog post focusses on my usage of Pluralsight. In a similar way to Udemy, I want to ensure that I continue what I start. For e.g. I’d rather complete 3 courses fully than start off 10 and leave them incomplete.

Courses:

C#:

Before even delving into frameworks, it’s critical to learn the language first. From an old podcast, I remember hearing something along the lines of “You need to know when the language ends and the framework starts”.

I used W3Schools for this too but ultimately, I wanted to learn the fundamental concepts of C#. One benefit is that I’d done Java before which at least seems to be reasonably similar to C#.

.NET Core API:

So after getting up to speed with C#, I now need to familiarise myself as best I can with the Core Framework.

Given the size of production level codebases, I’m well aware that it’s impossible to be a ‘master’ based off 1 course but I’m just using these courses as a way to familiarise myself with the core concepts. This will then allow me to significantly improve my understanding.

This course has the highest priority as it most closely relates to my day job.

AWS:

Long time readers will know that I love the cloud so there’s no surprise to hear that I’m undertaking Cloud Computing courses.

AWS is a part of my day job albeit not the priority therefore this will fall secondary to any work on .NET development.

I am working towards an AWS Certification therefore this seems like a great way to document and reflect my knowledge of the Cloud. I do have some knowledge already albeit you could say my knowledge is more ambiguous at this stage.

Conclusion:

I’d like to think that I’ve started enough courses in a way where I can develop my understanding, while also ensuring that they get complete. Having the AWS course also provides some variety too.

Final Things:

As always, thank you for taking the time to read this article!
